Lardon / Slab Bacon (3 Stripes)

At the Capital Grille, they use the lardon which is also called slab bacon.  It’s not that pantry ingredient to find easily. So, take the regular bacon if you don’t find the lardon. Using regular bacon won’t change the flavor profile. 

Take 3 stripes of lardon or bacon whatever you can manage. Chop them into a 2-inch long size. And set the bowl of lardon off the site until you need it. 

Brussel Sprouts (12 Ounces)

Take 12 ounces of Brussels sprouts and cut off the ends of each of them. Also, take away any extra leaves there. This time cut into half of each of the sprouts. 

Canola Oil (1 Cup)

To get a unique flavor, Capital Grille uses canola oil. So, we won’t recommend you go for the regular cooking oil. Yet, if you don’t have the canola oil, go for the regular cooking oil. However, try avoiding using the ordinary oil in this dish. Take 1 cup of canola oil.

Soya Sauce (1 Tbsp)

Adding soya sauce will give both a savory and light sweet taste to the dish. So, as per the instruction of Capital Grille, you need to take 1 tbsp of dark soya sauce.

Hoisin (1 ½ Cup)

Hoisin is a kind of thick dark-colored sauce. To add a complementary tangy, sweet, and savory taste to your dish, hoisin sauce will be handy. Take 1 ½ cup of hoisin. 

Honey & Lime Juice (1 Tbsp)

To add a direct sweet flavor to your dish, you need 1 tbsp of honey. To add a direct tangy flavor, you must apply a tbsp of lime juice to your dish.

Sambal Olic (1 Tbsp)

This sambal olic is also known as chili garlic paste. Take 1 tbsp of this element. It will be available in the nearby grocery shop. 

Salt (1 Tsp)

Take 1 tsp of salt to increase the taste. But don’t add more because you’ll add soya sauce as well. If you want to get an extraordinary flavor, add ¼ kosher salt. It’s extremely flavorful.

How to Make Capital Grille Brussel Sprouts?

Step-1

The Capital Grille Brussels Sprouts actually go through the double process. In this case, the first step is to blanch the sprouts in a pot of hot water. So, put a saucepan full of water on your stove. Let the water boil and then put sprouts in it. 

Since the water is boiled and hot already,  boil the sprouts just for 1 minute. Not more than that. Or the sprouts will be softened excessively. 

Step-2

It’s now time to go for the ice bath. In this step, transfer the boiled sprouts into an ice bath. Just add a box or 4 cups of ice in your basin or in a pot where you dip the sprouts in cold water. 

Keep moving the Sprouts around for 10 minutes so that they can be cold fast. 

Step-3

Take out the sprouts from the ice bath and set them on a dry kitchen towel. Keeping them on a towel will absorb the excess water from them and make your Capital Grills unique. 

Step-4

This time, put a skillet on the stove at high heat. Put canola oil in the pan and let it warm. Once the oil is warmed, drop the sprouts carefully. You may use a slotted spoon. Because it’s safe to drop the sprouts on hot oil. Keep frying the sprouts for 10 minutes at medium-low heat. Make sure they aren’t burnt.

Once the sprouts are fried well, transfer them to a bowl and keep them aside. Spread a paper towel on the bowl before you transfer them. It will absorb the extra oil.

Step-5

Now in the same pan of oil, put lardon and fry them for 5 minutes at medium heat. No need to add any more oil to the pan. Because you can saute the lardon in the leftover oil you got after frying sprouts. Using the same oil will allow you to spread a nice sprouts’ smell.

Transfer the lardon to a bowl with a paper towel to strain off additional oil.

Step-6

Now clean the brown spots of your pan and put 2 tbsp of oil. Then add hoisin, honey, soya sauce, sambal olic, salt, and lime juice, and stir them to mix. Then add fried lardon and sprouts. Continue stirring the ingredients to mix with the spicy elements.

Keep tossing the sprouts and lardon for 10 minutes at medium-low heat. It will give a good texture to your dish. Let them soften. However, make sure the ingredients aren’t getting burned.

Step-7

Your dish is ready to serve. Serve this dish either as a solo appetizer or as a side dish. You have the liberty to serve it the way you desire.

Ingredients

  • 3 Stripes Lardon

Instructions

  • Then add fried lardon and sprouts. Continue stirring the ingredients to mix with the spicy elements.
  • Keep tossing the sprouts and lardon for 10 minutes at medium-low heat

Tips

  • To add heat to the dish, add spicy chili sauce 
  • Add 2 tbsp of chopped jalapenos to increase heat
