Step-1

Heat your stove at medium-low heat. Put 1 tbsp olive oil and saute the minced onion. Keep stirring for 4 minutes and let the onion caramelize properly. 

Step-2

Add water, pepper, and salt to the pan and mix them with the sauteed onion. Continue stirring and bring to a boil for 5 minutes. 

Step-3

This time, you’re about to make the grits. So, add cornmeal and eggs. Continue stirring. Let it boil for 25 minutes to absorb water.

Step-4

Tips

  • Never use high heat while making grits. It will stick to the pan bottom and will be burnt. Later a burnt smell will be added to the dish, which will spoil your entire efforts.
  • Adding chicken broth instead of water will make yoru grits more delicious.

  • Add ½ cup of tomato sauce and soya sauce while sauteeing the shrimp and mushrooms for an enhanced taste.
