Buttermilk (¾ Cup)

Besides, it provides a tangy flavor that makes a good balance between the sweet and salty taste of pan de. You need only a little amount of buttermilk, that’s ¾ cup. 

Sugar (1 Tbsp)

If you want to avoid sweets, skip adding sugar. But adding sugar will give a lightly sweet taste to the cake and you’ll feel delicious. So, we’ll take a little bit of sugar that’s 1 tbsp only. 

Baking Powder (½ Tsp)

This ingredient will allow the cake to rise nicely. To get a light and airy texture in your pan de campo, you must add baking powder in the dough. So, take ½ tsp of this ingredient. 

Cold Water (½ Cup)

Water you need to mix the dry ingredients. To mix 2 cups of wheat flour, you’ll require more or less ½ cup of water. You need to apply cold water. 

Olive Oil (½ Tsp)

½ tsp of olive will be required just because of greasing purposes. You need to grease the skillet to bake. Here you can grease your skillet with regular cooking oil. However, applying olive oil will deliver a good flavor.

Shortening (6 Tbsp)

The pan de campo will get a crispy and crumbly texture as same as the pastry if you add shortening in it. Shortening is a fat-type ingredient that helps bring a good texture. Take 6 tbsp of shortening for your today’s recipe. 

Salt (¼ Tsp)

It comes with both a salty and sweet taste. Therefore, you also need a pinch of salt. Take ¼ tsp of salt just to bring a light salty flavor. 

How to Make Pan De Campo Recipe?

As same as the arrangement of the ingredients, the making process will also be so simple and easy. You need only a few steps to make this item. Here’s how-

Step-1

Preheat your oven to 400°

Step-2

Take a bowl and mix flour, salt, sugar, water, and baking powder. Mix them well. Now add the shortening and keep mixing until becomes a good mixture. 

Step-3

Once the shortening is mixed properly with the dry mixture, you’ll have to add buttermilk. Make sure you mix it well to make an ideal dough for rolling. Your dough should be smooth. And no chunk of flour should be there. 

Step-4

This time you’ve to roll out the floured dough. Make a 9ᐦ wide circle. But make sure it’s smaller than your skillet surface. Our skillet is 10ᐦ wide, so we made it 9ᐦ wide a circle to bake. 

Step-5

Grease the skillet that you’ll use to bake the pan de campo. Grease with olive oil and put it on the stove.  

Step-6

Put the 9ᐦ circle on the skillet and cook for 5 minutes at medium-low heat. After that, transfer the circle to your baking pan and bake for 15 minutes in your preheated oven. 

Step-7

Your pan de campo recipe is ready to serve. You either can serve it the whole or can cut it in a triangle shape and serve. Serve with your favorite side dishes.
