Bisquick Beer Batter Recipe

Know about Your  Ingredients

Fish fillet: 1 pound fish fillets, thawed if frozen. Thaw at the room temperature. It may take 1 hour to 2 hours.

Original Bisquick mix: 3 to 4 tablespoons Original Bisquick mix and 1 cup Original Bisquick mix would be enough for the whole recipe.

Beer: ½ cup regular or nonalcoholic beer would enhance the taste of the batter.

Salt: Sprinkle ½ teaspoon salt

Egg: 1 egg, kept at the room temperature.

Tartar sauce: Tartar sauce, if desired

Cornmeal: 1⁄3 cup cornmeal

Pepper: 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper for balancing the flavor

How to Make Beer Batter

Step 1: You can choose a heavy 3-quart saucepan or deep fryer to fry the fish fillets. Pour vegetable oil as much as needed into the pan or fryer. Generally, 1 and a half an inch from the bottom of the pan does the trick and ensures an even fried fillet at every turn. Turn the heat on and you can test it with a dedicated thermometer for the heat to reach 350°.

Step 2: In a medium mixer bowl, crack the egg and make sure there are no eggshells in the mix. It can be unpleasant to have little pieces of eggshells in the batter. Sprinkle the salt and gradually pour the beer into the bowl while continuing to whisk. Make sure you aerate the mixture well so the beer gets to neutralize well enough.

Step 3: Gradually pour in the Bisquick mix. Although the recipe includes one cup of dry mix to mix with the Bisquick deep fry batter, you can always measure according to the consistency you would like and see how it works for you. It is recommended that you use all of the flour. Keep mixing the batter with the liquid as you keep pouring the Bisquick mix. You can adjust the consistency of the batter by adding a bit of beer or a little more  Bisquick mix, as you deem fit.

Step 4: Now, carefully dip the fish fillets into the batter one by one, making sure there is enough batter coated on all sides. The oil should be heated enough by now to fry the fish fillets perfectly. Make sure to let the excess batter drip into the bowl.

Step 5: In another bowl pour a few tablespoons (around 3 to 4 tablespoons) of Bisquick mix and lightly coat the batter-coated fish fillets before placing them into the oil. Fry each fillet for at least 3-4 minutes. The outer shell and the fish fillet inside will be cooked properly this way. When they are fried, let the excess oil drip off and place them on a cooling rack or pat them with kitchen paper napkins.

Step 6: When all the fish fillets are cooked, serve them with a generous serving of tartar sauce, which is a delight to have with these fish fillets. Since they are paired in general with chips or french fries, you can add them to the serving as well. You must serve the deep-fried fish fillets warm because that’s the best way to enjoy this dish!
