How Do You Cook a Rib Roast?

There’s a simple difference between rib roast and prime rib. Well, most of you may not know it yet as both types of cut are the same hunk of meat. When you say it’s a rib, there will be rib bones in it. However, you don’t essentially need the ribs for cooking a rib roast. So, there’s room for keeping or removing the bones from the meat.

Rib roasts are delicious and a costly cut of meat. It is close to the chuck region, and the marbles in the meat make it tasty. You can cook rib roast as a steak. However, there’s room to cook it on a pan or grill it.

How to Make Ina Garten English Rib Roast?

Making a boneless Prime rib roast would have been convenient. But the Ina Garten rib roast is a better choice. To make our rib roast, we need to make the mustard horseradish sauce and the rib roast.

So, there are two things we need to ensure – get the sauce right, and roast the chunk of meat. Now, Prime rib is less expensive and not like any marbled beef. Working with prime rib can often lead to fewer flavors. Anyway, rib roast has marbles and better fats to cheer you up.

Now, we will be roasting the beef chunk in the oven. Once the meat is ready, you can cut it into smaller pieces. Of course, Rib Roast tends to be tastier with smaller cuts.

Preparing the Ina Prime Rib

Preparing the rib is our priority. Choosing the proper cut of meat is essential. After buying the rib, keep it inside the refrigerator overnight. Bring the rib out 2 hours before you start cooking. It’s critical to bring the rib roast to room temperature. When you are cooking Prime rib, you can either keep the bones or remove them. We like to keep the bones as the bones keep the bones away from overcooking. Also, the ribs will inhibit the seasonings underneath the roast meat.

Then, we need to prepare the horseradish mustard sauce. Just whisk all the ingredients to prepare the sauce, and you are good to go. Now, let us look at the ingredients for our standing rib roast recipe.

Ingredients We Need

We have to separate the ingredients into two sections – first, we need ingredients for the rib roast and then we need ingredients for the horseradish sauce.

For the Rib Roast:

Standing Rib Roast: We better get ourselves a three rib standing roast. We need 7-8 pounds of rib roast for the dish.

Kosher Salt: It’s a better option for seasoning the rib roast. The salt doesn’t have any additives to get the right meaty flavors from the meat. We need 1 tablespoon of kosher salt for seasoning our meat.

Black Pepper: Like the salt, we need 1 ½ tablespoon of black pepper for seasoning.

Mustard Horseradish Sauce: Follow our ingredient list and the recipe instructions to make the sauce.

Ingredients for the Horseradish Sauce

Mayonnaise: For our sauce, we need to make a smooth marinade. Mayonnaise contains both fat and acid in it. So, you can add any other flavors just the way you want. Just ½ cup of mayonnaise is enough for the sauce marinade.

Dijon Mustard: To be honest, dijon mustard is an excellent emulsifier for meat and sauce. Once you use it on the sauce, it will work perfectly with meat or roast. Before making the sauce, we will add 3 tablespoons of dijon mustard.

Whole-grain Mustard: Well, whole-grain mustard is pretty good for a dip. That’s why our sauce can work as an excellent dip for the chunk of meat. The mustard will add both sweetness and bitterness, which is essential for our sauce. Alongside the natural heat of the dijon mustard, whole grain mustard will bring out authentic flavors. Just ½ tablespoon is enough for the horseradish sauce.

Prepared Horseradish: Now, we are not making plain horseradish sauce. Instead, we are using prepared horseradish so that the mayo and mustard can work together. We need 1 tablespoon of prepared horseradish to deliver a mild and creamy texture.

Sour Cream: We want to give the sauce a dipping texture. ⅓ cup of sour cream can help us get the consistency we need.

Kosher Salt: This coarse salt will dish out the right flavors and enhance them. ¼ teaspoon of kosher salt is enough for the dish.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: First, preheat your oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit

Step 2: We need to place the oven rack right on the second lowest position in the oven.

Step 3: Take a large enough pan to place the roast.

Step 4: Season the meat using salt and black pepper.

Step 5: Roast the meat for 45 minutes.

Step 6: After 45 minutes, don’t remove the meat yet. Just reduce the temperature to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 7: Roast the standing tip roast for another 30 minutes.

Step 8: Again, increase the temperature to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and roast for an additional 30 minutes. We need to make sure the internal temperature of the meat reaches 125 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 9: While cooking, we assemble the ingredients to make the mustard horseradish sauce.
Step 10: Whisk all the ingredients in a bowl to make the sauce.
