Cucumber ( 3 Pounds)

Pickling Salt (5 ½ Ounce)

Dill Seed ( 1 Tsp)

Take the dill seed of 1 tsp and the dill fronds of 1 large bunch f fresh dill. You need both to apply to your pickle recipe. It will help to enhance the dill aroma perfectly. 

Garlic ( 2 Cloves)

To make this pickle recipe, you’ll also need 2 crushed garlic cloves. You need not take more. Because 2 cloves are enough to spread the flavor. 

Red Pepper Flakes (1 Tsp)

Black Peppercorn ( 1 Tsp)

How to Make the Alton Brown Dill Pickle?

It’s very easy to make the Alton Brown pickles-

Step-1

In a 1-gallon container, pours 5 ½ ounces of salt and 1 gallon of filtered water. 

Step-2

Now add the dill seed and the bunch of fresh dill fronds, crushed garlic, red pepper flakes, and black peppercorns. No need to mix them. Now you need to go for the next step. 

Step-3

This time, add the cucumber to the jar. But you have to add the cucumber tactfully to build the crock.  Lay the cucumbers on the jar’s side and arrange them vertically around, as shown in the picture-

Laying the cucumber vertically in the jar will ensure each cucumber will get the same amount of dill flavors. Or one will get more, and one will get less flavor. And this will make your dill pickles less tasty. 

Step-4

Now, take the gallon of water you made with salt initially. And pour the water into the jar of cucumber and other spice mixture. Make sure the water level is above 2 inches of the cucumber.  Adding water is required to make the brine of this pickle recipe.

Step-5

Pour the leftover water into a zip bag. Check out whether the zip bag has any leak on its body. Take a perfect leak-free bag and seal it after pouring the full water into it. 

Step-6

Put the full of brine zip-locked bag on top of the jar you filled with salt water in step-4.

Step-7

Your pickle jar is ready for fermentation. Remember, the temperature is a crucial factor while keeping the jar for fermentation. Make sure the temperature of your spare room is 70°. 

The temperature level shouldn’t go above 70°. Because the higher temperature will make the fermentation process slow. Thus, a temperature between 68° to 70° will be ideal. 

NB: If you cannot control the temperature, place the crock in a clean corner of the basement of your house. It works especially in the winter. And, in the summer, you can place your crock in your cooler. Just in the summertime, you only need to add a few pieces of ice bars to the crock each day. 

Step-8

Keep the crock for fermentation for the right 3 days. Not less or more than 3 days. You have to maintain the timing carefully. 

Step-9

This time, you need to scum the crock every day or at least each couple of days. Take a vessel of clean water and lift and dunk the zip bag on the vessel. Let the bag wash off properly. 

Now take a kitchen towel and wipe the edges of the jar of pickles to clean the stuck leftover in the edge. 

Step-10

Put the jar of pickles in the refrigerator for 3 days. This time you need not put the zip bag on top. Just use a flat plate to cover the jar of pickles.  Let it scum for 3 days. 

Step-11

Your Pickles recipe is done. Transfer the pickles to a fresh jar and refrigerate for three more days before serving. Now it’s ready to serve. This pickle recipe is storable for up to 4 months.
